The concept of the doppelganger, or the ʻdouble-walkerʼ has existed in the collective human imagination for thousands of years. In various cultures, spiritual doubles have played personifications of inner-duality as well as more sinister roles as harbingers of impending tragedy, reflections of inner turmoil, and in Norse mythology, ʻfirst-walkersʼ, appearing to others as a ghostly apparition or a quiet voice of things to come.

In modern psychology, we attribute these alter egos to be extensions of ourselves – seen in our dreams and our subconscious. The doppelganger has the power to play oneʼs aspiration to a higher self or a cruel reflection of oneʼs insecurities.

A face-to-face meeting with oneʼs self has the power to crush or the power to allow one to flourish. In the Talmud, it is said that a meeting with oneʼs self is to witness the face of God.

In our editorial story model Hiujun plays beautiful mind-games on us luring us into the world of mystical portals between reality and imagination.
