In the post-apocalyptic world of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Sonequa Martin-Green plays a survivor in a world where the living are as dangerous as the dead, and losing her humanity is as big a danger as the rest of her challenges. There are a few things that Sonequa learns from her character, Sasha. “After being on the show I’m definitely more prepared for a zombie apocalypse!” says the actress, but quickly adds: “I don’t think I would have the same instinct to disconnect from people.”
In reality, the actress has just recently assumed the role of new mother, and we were fortunate enough to catch up with her for an exclusive interview and photo session, by photographer J.R Mankoff, available in Spirit & Flesh Alter Ego Issue.
Stylist Nicolas Bru dressed the very-radiant actress in an array of fashions that emulate the softness, light, and comfort of the civilized world as well as the beauty of emerging motherhood – a clear juxtaposition to the bleak palette and worn-out fatigues that her character, Sasha wears for The Walking Dead.
Either way, Sonequa shines at both ends of the spectrum – bringing a versatility to both bright and dark, pure and tough, life and dead.
