photography by NICHOLAS VREELAND

India has recently gone through a massive outbreak of Covid 19, and much of the country is still closed to prevent the spread of the virus. Photographer Nicholas Vreeland recently visited a little town called McLeod Ganj, above Dharamshala, a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. There, he records an all-too familiar quiet, in a place awaiting the return to normal.

Morning moon
the street is empty
there are no donors
few people before the main gate
I buy our breakfast bread
no one buying vegetables
or taking taxis
even the tea stall is empty
a friend awaits an offering
as do his colleagues
a reminder
to be kind
